How it plays

Spin. Pick. Live with it.

A draft wheel of forty years of football. Every spin lands on a city and a year, shows you that squad, and asks for exactly one player. The rest of the roster is gone the moment you choose.

01

Spin the wheel

The wheel lands on a city and a year — Chicago 1985, San Francisco 1989. You do not get to reroll it.

02

Take one player

That squad is revealed with our ratings. Pick one into an open slot. The other ten are discarded.

03

Fill thirteen slots

Six on offence, six on defence, one kicker. Quarterback carries more weight than any other pick.

04

Play twenty games

Seventeen in the regular season, then three in the playoffs. Drive by drive, no shortcuts.

The lineup

Thirteen decisions,
one season.

Each slot takes a player at that position and nothing else. Offence is weighted toward the quarterback and the line; defence toward the edge rush and the front. Kicking is a single number that decides field goals.

A stacked offence with nothing behind it will win you fourteen games and lose you the Final. That is the whole puzzle.

The season

A regular-season loss hurts.
A playoff loss is the end.

All seventeen regular-season games are played, whatever happens. Drop one in week four and the run keeps going — 16-1 is still a season worth finishing. Then week eighteen arrives and the rules change. Lose once in the Divisional, the Conference Championship or the Final and the run stops there, on the spot.

Every run ends in a code.

Three integers: regulation wins, ties and overtime results, then losses. One of them is not like the others.

20-0

Perfect. Twenty played, twenty won. This is the only result that gets the gold treatment, and it is the only one that ever will.

16-1-3

A full season, a tie, three losses, and a playoff run that ended somewhere along the way.

18-0-1

Seventeen and zero, through the Divisional, out in the Conference Championship. The cruellest code in the game.

Fair play

The board measures drafting,
not luck.

In the Daily, everybody in the world gets the same seed and the same thirteen spins. The only variable is who you took and where you put them.

Your device never reports a score. It reports the seed and the thirteen picks you made, and the season is replayed on the server to produce the record that lands on the leaderboard. There is no path for a made-up number to reach the board.
